What is Natural Pain Relief?

When you suffer from chronic pain, small, everyday tasks become overwhelming obstacles to tackle each day. While pain medication and invasive treatments are available, I believe osteopathic treatments must be considered by anyone who lives with debilitating chronic pain.

Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a hands-on, long-term solution. Instead of treating pain symptoms that will persist and recur, OMT addresses the root causes of pain. Through gentle, precise, hands-on attention, Dr. Dan works to restore any structural abnormalities that may be present. Natural pain relief is possible for any of the following conditions:

  • Facial pain

  • Headache

  • Hypertension and hypotension

  • Knee pain

  • Low back pain

  • Neck pain

  • Postoperative pain

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Sciatica

  • Shoulder pain

  • Tennis elbow pain

A Holistic Approach to Treating Pain

As an osteopathic physician, acupuncture is a key tool to naturally reduce pain and allow the body to naturally restore itself to balance. Every treatment will go far beyond an acupuncture session. Osteopathic manipulation is combined with acupuncture to treat the problem point which brought you to our office.

Benefits of Acupuncture

In our experience, acupuncture is a safe, natural treatment for most mild pains and aches in the body. Benefits of acupuncture include:

  • Affordable and natural treatment for pain

  • Natural anxiety treatment and depression

  • Minimal to zero side effects

  • Natural treatment for neck pain

Where Does Pain Come From?

Viewing the body as a single unit, the Chinese model defines health as existing when all of the processes of your body are balanced and occur in harmony with each other. When a process occurs more than it was naturally designed to, your body's yin and yang energies fall out of balance, compromising other processes in your body. Depending on your state of health, these imbalances may cause anxiety and depression, pain, and even physical disease.

There are many daily habits which can move you our of balance. In today's modern society, these can include:

  • Delayed sleep schedules

  • Excessive social media use

  • Unrestrained answering of work emails

These all-too-common habits lead to a lack of rest, relaxation, and reflection. Without this, your body is forced to compensate and overuse certain physical processes. The result is an imbalance in your yin and yang energies. Without even realizing it, you overtax yourself constantly, increasing levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture works by naturally restoring balance and harmony to the body's physiological processes.

The Chinese view the human body as being composed of complex, inner-moving streams of energy, known as meridians. Energy flowing along these meridian pathways should always be moving, always transforming, and never obstructed. When that energy becomes stationary in one part of the body, such as when you overuse the parts of your brain that you use at work, pain, anxiety, and disease can result. Acupuncture needles smooth out and enable that circulation of energy to return to normal.

Unblocking the body's circulation of energy helps, in turn, to restore the yin and yang balance in the body. As acupuncture needles are placed at appropriate spots where blockages have been observed, energetic and physical blockages begin to dissipate.

Research now shows acupuncture needles placed at specific points in the body stimulate the body’s endorphins. Endorphins are your body’s natural painkillers. Endorphins also change and direct your body’s blood flow. By increasing blood flow to a damaged area of the body, acupuncture accelerates the healing process. This makes acupuncture a safe and natural way to eliminate pain points, increasing healing time, and rebalancing the energetic makeup of the body.

How Much Does Prolotherapy Cost?

Prolotherapy and PRP injections cost $225 - $500 per injection, respectively. For best results, we always advise our patients to plan for 2-3 injections, as well as osteopathic manipulation treatments during the period of treatment. In addition, we will work with you to adjust your diet to ensure your body is in optimal shape for the treatment.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Most of our patients report no discomfort during the procedure itself, which typically lasts between 30-45 minutes.

Preparing for Your Acupuncture Appointment

Be prepared for acupuncture treatments by wearing comfortable and loose clothing. Depending on the area being treated, we may need to have easy access to your arms, legs, and torso area. Avoid the following with one hour of your appointment:

  • Vigorous exercise

  • Sexual activity

  • Eating a large meal

  • Coffee and alcohol

  • Fasting
